Software to Manage Large Classes

Administration of large classes can be time consuming, repetitive, and complex, and this time takes away from valuable time supporting students directly. This is partciularly true for large classes which have more complex structures such as classes centred around project-based learning. To assist in the administration of these classes I have developed several software tools.

UTS SAT (Scheduling Assistant Tool) - A project to develop a tutor allocation tool. The tool collects tutor interest in teaching a given subject and their availability and allows subject coordinators to assign tutors to classes based on their availability. This tool streamlines the collection of interest and availability for large tutor teams and assists in developing allocations for tutors that meet the team's needs. Developed has been conducted by several student teams through iterations of the Software Development Studio, a student intern, and myself.

Subject Manager - A project to develop a toolbox of functionality that integrates with the Canvas LMS API and CSV files from various UTS systems. Developed by me, the tool provides various functions for managing large classes, such as functions to split large classes into smaller “zones” and student groups including using demographic data to create custom distributions, integration with Canvas for importing and exporting groups and grades, creation of subject archives for accreditation, and more.

And many more small projects are always on the go.
